Blog Post #1-About my book

About my book
The book that I have selected to read for my Independent Reading Blog project is titled Looking for Alaska. It was written by the author, John Green. I chose to read this specific book for my project because personally, I'm a big fan of John Green's books overall and I heard it was such a lovely story that I'll make you cry. The main character of my book is Miles Halter. He's a young teen who's a junior at his new high school and who's obsessed with the last words of dead people. Based on what I've read so far, I believe theirs many possible themes for this book because it talks about the meaning of what friendship really means to them, what home looks like, it talks about life, mortality, and how the they make choices.

Text Connections
When I look at all the characters and analyze their traits and personalities, I believe I am able to connect the most with both Miles, the main character, and Alaska, his secret lover whom he deeply has a crush on. I say this because they're both obsessed with books and they read a lot, which is something I truly love to do as well. Alaska likes mysteries and she is a mystery herself by the way she talks and acts and her obsessions with life and death. Miles on the other hand is struggling to find his way through life and his personal problems as well as his academic. Another connection would be to his other books he published since I enjoy reading about romance and mysteries and that's what all his novels are about.

Hello, my name is Jennifer Dominguez. I am 15 years old and currently a sophomore at Chicago Math and Science Academy. I come from a family of 7. I have 3 sisters and a baby brother. I would consider myself as a very caring and responsible student and friend who always likes to see others smile and keep doing better everyday. Both my parents always push me to do my best and I love them for that. My main interests would be to keep on studying so I can do better in the future. I also like to read and get involved in many extra activities that could help me in my academic and social progress. I also love making new friends and meeting new people because I like to share new experiences and I also find it interesting learning new things about others. I would describe myself as a very religious person as well, since my parents have inculcated me since I was a child and I personally believe in my faith because in a way it has also helped me since I'm very involved in activities that helped me as a person and around my community. Some of my favorite subjects would be reading and writing. I really enjoy the fact that these classes really put me up to critical thinking and analyzing articles as well as difficult problems that I never thought I could explain or describe but throughout the years I have discovered many wonderful things that made me the person who I really am as of today. If I could describe my English class, I would describe it as a fun, energetic, and interesting class since many of the topics we learn are really compelling as well as my English teacher, Ms.Moore, who I would also describe as a nice and very positive person who is always encouraging us to do better by setting challenging goals and making connections with the outside world. Another thing I like about my teacher, Ms. Moore, would be the fact that she makes extra time to listen to us when we want to talk to her in private about personal problems or just in general since she's always giving good advice that makes us think and see whats really beneficial for our future. I believe I have created this blog today, for this class, to make us think more and analyze many different types of text as well as expressing ourselves and who we are as a person.
